Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program

Obesity is a challenging health problem that affects 69% of the adult population, according to the CDC. Losing weight significantly reduces the risk of future health problems such as Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, and Heart disease as well as improves the sense of well-being for the patients by improving their mood, self-confidence, and overall quality of life.

However, many patients attempt and fail to lose weight on their own. That’s where a medically supervised weight loss program comes in.

At Tapia Clinic, we have designed a medically supervised weight loss program to offer prescription medications for weight loss to improve patients' chances of success, where they are closely monitored by a licensed healthcare professional such as a physician or nurse practitioner.

We prescribe the following treatments available at Tapia Clinic:

1. Tirzepatide:

Tirzepatide (also known as brand name Mounjaro) is a once-a-week peptide injection that has been proven to help patients lose weight. Tirzepatide mimics hormones called glucagon-like peptide-1 and glucose-dependent in insulinotropic polypeptide. These hormones decrease food intake by improving satiety, slowing down the emptying of your stomach and making you feel full faster.
It helps to control blood pressure as well as regulate insulin levels in the body. These are once-a-week injections.
People on Tirzepatide at highest doses lost an average of 22.5% of their body weight.

2. Semaglutide:

Semaglutide(also known as brand name Ozempic) is another once-a-week injection that has been proven to help patients lose weight. Semaglutide mimics the glucagon-like peptide 1 hormone which acts in the same way by reducing appetite and food intake and improving insulin and sugar balance.
People on Semaglutide can achieve weight loss up to 15% of their body weight.

3. Contrave:

Contrave is an FDA-approved, non-stimulant, oral weight loss medication to be used as an adjunct to reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. Contrave is designed to reduce hunger and control cravings so you can lose weight and keep it off. On an average patients lost about 11.5% of weight after using Contrave for 56 weeks.

4. Surgical Consultation with highly trained Bariatric Surgeon:

Patients who have severe obesity and multiple other co morbid health conditions such as sleep apnea, severe osteoarthritis or severe uncontrolled diabetes and have tried, failed or are unable to take any of the other prescription medications for weight loss, may be good candidates for bariatric surgery.

We have a highly experienced and trained bariatric surgeon, Dr Mustafa Alibhai, who consults patients at Tapia Clinic once a month and can evaluate a patient and give them surgical options for weight loss.
